When Eastfield Mall opened in 1967 in Springfield, MA, it was done with the Rouse Company being its developer. Lots has changed since then. I will bring up Eastfield again when I next talk with Tom Boregard as he was close and a friend to the project. We both worked for the Rouse Company and stayed in touch after all these many years.
As seen on the attached pictures, Rouse at the time already made use of many skylights in their overall mall design, but the use of the vertical window curtains we called "clerestory" and from what I was told, it was clerestory glass which actually started the craze for skylights in our malls.
Indeed Eastfield did also enjoy a rainbow of colors and finishes all around. People and shoppers alike loved it. Signs of the times.
A major design statement with clerestory glass curtains
